Mission and Vision

New Iona Presbyterian seeks to be a transforming and visible presence in the Monroe-West Monroe community in missions of justice, ecology, children, and lives committed to worship.

“I was hungry and you fed me,
I was thirsty and you gave me a drink,
I was homeless and you gave me a room,
I was shivering and you gave me clothes,
I was sick and you stopped to visit,
I was in prison and you came to me.”

-Matthew 25:35-40

Roots from Scotland

Although Presbyterians grew out of the Protestant Reformation of the 16th century, it found a home with the people of Scotland. But long before the Reformation, there was Iona. Often referred to as the “Birthplace of Christianity in Scotland”, it is a wee island but, within it’s sparse landscape and sweeping views of the Atlantic, it holds the story of a holy people dedicated to living lives of peace and justice, concern for the environment, and a reverence for the worship of God.
